• Use participles, relative pronouns or punctuations

Many reasons have been cited for the rise in global temperatures; however, most climate scientists agree that human activity is the main cause.

2. Academic Writing Is Clear

•  Your points should be clear, although your grammar should be complex
• Link your ideas with appropriate linking phrases

Example:

• At first glance, the data reveals a clear pattern
• This essay will give three reasons for the long-term decline in violent crime
• In conclusion, I am strongly in favor of stricter punishments for hate speech

3. Academic Writing Is Impersonal

•  Try not to overuse "I", use passive voice
• Use objective examples of factual statistics
• Avoid using examples of yourself, your families of friends

Example:

• This essay will examine the issue of identity theft and propose solutions
• The issue of censorship is too broad to be covered in this essay
• The purpose of this essay is to examine both sides of the argument
