2. Academic Writing Is Clear
- Your points should be clear, although your grammar should be complex
- Link your ideas with appropriate linking phrases

- At first glance, the data reveals a clear pattern
- This essay will give three reasons for the long-term decline in violent crime
- In conclusion, I am strongly in favor of stricter punishments for hate speech
3. Academic Writing Is Impersonal
- Try not to overuse "I", use passive voice
- Use objective examples of factual statistics
- Avoid using examples of yourself, your families of friends
Example:
- This essay will examine the issue of identity theft and propose solutions
- The issue of censorship is too broad to be covered in this essay
- The purpose of this essay is to examine both sides of the argument
