Abstrak: Tantangan yang dihadapi oleh seorang perancang dalam proses pengembangan produk diantaranya adalah ekspektasi konsumen, kompetisi global, inovasi teknologi, dan kondisi sosial dan ekonomi. Perusahaan dituntut untuk meningkatkan daya saing produk yang dimiliki sebelum produk tersebut diperkenalkan pada pasar untuk bersaing dengan produk-produk yang sudah ada. Daya saing suatu produk dapat dicapai dengan meningkatkan nilai (value) produk dan menekan biaya yang diperlukan. Kreativitas seorang perancang dibutuhkan untuk menghasilakan sebuah produk yang berkualitas dan murah. Untuk mewujudkan hal tersebut, salah satu alat dalam metode TRIZ dikombinasikan dengan metode Value Analysis Value Engineering (VAVE). VAVE digunakan untuk menentukan komponen yang akan dilakukan pengurangan biaya. Selanjutnya, TRIZ digunakan sebagai alat untuk menghasilkan ide-ide kreatif untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan desain menggantikan metode brainstorming. Sebuah studi kasus dikembangkan untuk memahami aplikasi kedua metode tersebut dalam perancangan produk. Hasil studi menunjukkan kedua metode tersebut dapat digunakan secara bersamaan dan saling melengkapi kekurangan masing-masing.
